Muzzle Training

Verena Helfrich

Who for: Dogs from 6 months and older Date: Sunday, 14 April 2024, from 14:00 - 17:00 Location: Martha & Friends

Training dogs to wear a muzzle calmly and not to perceive it is a surprise or even a punishment is a very important life skill for dogs to learn. Certain EU countries require dogs to wear muzzles in public places and/or on public transport, and your veterinarian may want to have your dog muzzled for protection against a potential reaction to an uncomfortable procedure or pain following injury. And even if you have the best and most trusting relationship with your dog, he may lash out if injured, and you may need to know how to muzzle your dog.

However, muzzling a dog only in an emergency will add to the stress it is already undergoing from the injury or medical procedure it has to endure… Therefore, it is important that the dog be introduced to the muzzle gradually and creating positive associations through treats and praise.

In this workshop you will learn about different types of muzzles and which muzzle type would work best for your dog and the situations your dog encounters. We will show you how to train your dog to feel comfortable in a muzzle and to understand that a muzzle is simply a part of everyday life.

This workshop will be held by Verena Helfrich, our former Head Trainer at Martha & Friends, who together with her husband Andreas, own the online dog store Chic & Scharf in Trier, and are known to be the foremost experts in the EU of muzzles and how to fit these on all types of dogs.

Verena will help you to fit your dog with the most appropriate type and size of muzzle, which can be bought or ordered here through Martha & Friends.
